Sherpa 4x4 Winch Range

One of the most common questions asked by customers is; how waterproof are Sherpa 4x4 winches and solenoids? Preventing water ingress is a design priority for Sherpa 4x4 engineers when developing our winches. Like all products with rotating drums and parts it is difficult to make completely waterproof. Twin double lipped seals on the drive and gearbox ends of the drum are the first line of defense. These seals will keep the majority of the water, dirt and mud out of the running gear ensuring that the winch continues to operate even while underwater. The electric drives are fully sealed, IP68, with metal on metal sealed bearings. Any small droplets of water passing the gearbox seal will be repelled by the hyrdrophobic grease packed in the gears. The heavy duty, 500A solenoids are completely sealed and IP68 rated. They have also been extensively tested and shown to resist water ingress even with repeated hot/cold cycling.

The video below demonstrates that Sherpa 4x4 winches are capable of running for prolonged periods under water whilst retaining reliability and performance. This is a good indication the Sherpa winch range is going to get you out of trouble when you need it most.

The winch in the video is a Sherpa 12V Mustang 9,500Lb. Run off 2x 12V batteries in parallel. Pulling almost 60A while free spooling.
