Sherpa 4x4 Hydraulic Winches are built for demanding recovery, transport and equipment-loading applications where reliable pulling power and continuous hydraulic operation are required.
Available in 10,000lb, 15,000lb and 20,000lb capacities, the range combines powerful hydraulic motors, heavy-duty planetary gearing, mechanical braking and generous drum capacity in a rugged package suited to commercial vehicles, recovery trucks, machinery, agricultural equipment and custom hydraulic installations.
Unlike an electric winch, these models are driven directly by the vehicle or machine's hydraulic system. This makes them particularly well suited to applications requiring frequent or extended winching where a suitable hydraulic power supply is already available.
Three Heavy-Duty Capacities
The Sherpa Hydraulic Winch range is available in three sizes to suit different vehicles and applications:
10,000lb / 4,536kg rated line pull
15,000lb / 6,804kg rated line pull
20,000lb / 9,072kg rated line pull
Selecting the correct winch should take into consideration the maximum anticipated load, hydraulic system pressure and flow, mounting arrangement and required duty cycle.
Hydraulic Powered Performance
Hydraulic drive provides smooth, controllable winching performance without relying on large electrical motors, batteries or high-current electrical systems.
The winch speed and available pulling force are determined by the hydraulic flow and pressure supplied to the winch. Increasing hydraulic flow increases line speed, while hydraulic pressure determines the available pulling force.
This makes the Sherpa Hydraulic Winch particularly suitable for recovery trucks, tilt trays, agricultural machinery, heavy trailers, service vehicles and equipment already fitted with hydraulic systems.
Heavy-Duty Planetary Gear Train
All three models use a 2-stage planetary gear train with a 36:1 gear ratio. This compact and durable drivetrain transfers the hydraulic motor's power efficiently to the winch drum while providing the reduction required for high pulling loads.
The planetary gearbox design provides a strong combination of pulling capacity, line speed and durability for demanding winching applications.
Mechanical Load-Holding Brake
Each Sherpa Hydraulic Winch incorporates a mechanical braking system to provide controlled operation and reliable load holding.
The braking system works together with the hydraulic drivetrain to help maintain control of the load when winching stops.
Manual Clutch Operation
The winches feature a manual clutch system allowing the drum to be disengaged when required, making it quicker and easier to pull the winch rope out to the load.
The 10,000lb and 15,000lb models utilise a pull-and-turn clutch mechanism, while the 20,000lb model features a turn-type clutch.
Synthetic Winch Rope Included
Each winch is supplied with a 24 metre synthetic rope matched to the capacity of the winch:
10,000lb: 9mm x 24m synthetic rope
15,000lb: 10mm x 24m synthetic rope
20,000lb: 12mm x 24m synthetic rope
Synthetic rope provides excellent strength while being considerably lighter and easier to handle than conventional steel winch cable.
Hawse Fairlead & Heavy-Duty Hook
Each winch is supplied with a hawse fairlead to provide smooth rope guidance during operation.
The 10,000lb and 15,000lb models feature a 3/8" hook, while the larger 20,000lb model is equipped with a 1/2" hook.
Common Mounting Pattern
All three hydraulic winches use a mounting bolt pattern of approximately 254mm x 114.3mm (10.00" x 4.50"), making installation straightforward in many purpose-built trays, recovery bodies, machinery frames and custom mounting systems.
Always confirm the available mounting space, structural capacity and hydraulic requirements before installation.
Designed for Serious Work
Whether fitted to a recovery truck, service vehicle, agricultural machine, heavy trailer or specialised piece of equipment, Sherpa Hydraulic Winches provide the rugged construction and controllable hydraulic pulling power required for demanding applications.
With three capacities available, operators can select the model best matched to the hydraulic system and anticipated working load.
Important: Hydraulic pressure and flow must remain within the operating limits specified for the selected winch. Installation should be completed by a suitably experienced person familiar with hydraulic systems. Winch rope must also be correctly tensioned and wound onto the drum before the winch is placed into service.
Hydraulic Power
Ideal for vehicles and machinery already equipped with a hydraulic power system. Hydraulic drive provides smooth, powerful winching without placing heavy electrical loads on the vehicle's battery and charging system.
Three Winch Capacities
Choose from 10,000lb, 15,000lb or 20,000lb rated capacities to suit applications ranging from machinery and vehicle recovery through to commercial transport and heavy equipment loading.
Heavy-Duty Planetary Gearing
A 2-stage planetary gearbox and 36:1 reduction ratio provide the mechanical strength and torque multiplication required for demanding pulling applications.
Mechanical Braking
A mechanical brake system provides dependable load holding and controlled operation when the winch is stopped.
Manual Free-Spool Clutch
The manual clutch allows the drum to be disengaged so rope can be quickly pulled out to the load without powering the winch.
Synthetic Rope Supplied
Every model comes complete with 24 metres of synthetic winch rope sized appropriately for the capacity of the winch.
Hawse Fairlead
A hawse fairlead is supplied to provide smooth rope guidance and help reduce abrasion as the synthetic rope enters and leaves the winch drum.
Compact Heavy-Duty Construction
Despite their substantial pulling capacities, the hydraulic winches use a compact frame and drum configuration suitable for installation into commercial vehicles, machinery and purpose-built recovery equipment.
Flexible Hydraulic Operation
Winch speed can be matched to the available hydraulic flow, while hydraulic system pressure determines the available pulling force. This gives equipment builders and operators flexibility when integrating the winch into an existing hydraulic system.
Sherpa 4x4 Spare Parts Support
Sherpa 4x4 maintains replacement and service components to help keep equipment operating well beyond the initial installation.
A commercial winch needs to perform reliably when loads are high and equipment is working hard. Sherpa Hydraulic Winches combine robust gearing, hydraulic drive, mechanical braking and heavy-duty components to provide dependable performance in serious recovery and equipment-handling applications.
Important: Correct hydraulic system design is essential. Always ensure the hydraulic supply pressure, oil flow, hose size, fittings, filtration and return circuit are suitable for the selected winch.
When selecting a hydraulic winch, do not consider rated line pull alone. The available hydraulic pressure and flow from the vehicle or machine must also be suitable for the selected model.
As a general guide:
10,000lb: Ideal for lighter recovery vehicles, trailers, agricultural equipment and machinery applications where a compact hydraulic winch is required.
15,000lb: A versatile commercial option suited to larger vehicles, recovery equipment, tilt trays and machinery-loading applications.
20,000lb: Designed for demanding heavy vehicle, machinery and commercial recovery applications requiring maximum pulling capacity.
The stated winch capacity applies to the first layer of rope on the drum. Available line pull reduces as additional rope layers build on the drum. For maximum pulling capacity, operators should use as much available rope as practical while always retaining the required minimum number of wraps on the drum.
Installation Notice: The hydraulic circuit, hoses, valves, fittings, reservoir and filtration system must be appropriately sized for the winch. Consult a qualified hydraulic technician where required.
