  • Sherpa 4x4 Kinetic Recovery Ropes

Sherpa Kinetic Recovery Ropes are designed for vehicle recovery from mud, sand and other situations where a controlled kinetic pull can help free a bogged vehicle. Manufactured from high-quality double-braided nylon, the rope stretches progressively under load to absorb and transfer kinetic energy between the recovery vehicle and the stuck vehicle.

With a minimum 30% stretch, Sherpa Kinetic Recovery Ropes provide a smoother, more progressive recovery than conventional low-stretch towing equipment. This helps reduce shock loading through the vehicles, recovery points and equipment while delivering strong, controlled pulling performance.

    Recovery Rope Features

    • Minimum 30% stretch from high-quality double-braided nylon
    • Protective coatings around the rope eyes to help reduce abrasion and wear
    • Good resistance to UV, abrasion and chemicals
    • Wet/dry carry bag included with all models except SRR51X40
    • Clearly labelled with the rope's Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS) for easy identification

    Choosing the Right Recovery Rope

As a general guide, select a recovery rope with a Minimum Breaking Strength appropriate to the weight of the vehicle and the recovery application. Sherpa currently recommends choosing a rope rated to at least 2–3 times the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM).

Your vehicle's GVM can usually be found on the manufacturer's compliance plate or vehicle information label.

For example, many common 4WDs such as the Nissan Patrol and Toyota LandCruiser have a GVM of around 3,300kg, while popular dual-cab utes including the D-Max, Hilux and Ranger are commonly around the 3,000kg mark.

For these applications, the Sherpa 22mm (7/8") × 9m Kinetic Recovery Rope offers a Minimum Breaking Strength of 13,300kg and is a popular choice for general 4WD recovery.

For heavier vehicles and specialised recovery applications, Sherpa offers larger kinetic ropes with ratings up to 91,300kg MBS. These heavy-duty options are suitable for applications involving trucks, agricultural machinery, industrial equipment and other large vehicles where appropriately rated recovery equipment is required.

    Important — Wet Rope Performance

The strength and stretch characteristics of nylon recovery rope are reduced when saturated with water. Allow the rope to dry thoroughly after wet use and inspect it before the next recovery.

Always inspect recovery equipment before use and follow recognised safe-recovery procedures.

    Guidelines of safe use

SHIPPING DISCLAIMER: Some of the bigger diameter ropes are very large and heavy. Much larger than most people realise. We recommend contacting us for a freight quote before ordering as additional freight may be required. For example, the 2" 40m long rope weighs over 90kg and is delivered on a pallet. We can arrange a drop tail delivery if you don't have a fork lift on site.
