By combining a DC/DC charger and MPPT solar regulator into a single compact unit, Sherpa 4x4 chargers allow your lithium batteries to charge efficiently from both your vehicle or boat's charging system and solar panels. This provides a complete charging solution for trolling motor batteries, marine electronics, caravans, campers and off-grid power systems.
Installing an onboard DC/DC charger with MPPT solar input helps your lithium batteries recover while you're running at sea, travelling or towing, while also maximising energy harvested from solar panels when the vehicle is switched off and sunlight is available. This simplifies your lithium battery charging system and reduces installation complexity.
Sherpa 4x4 chargers are supplied configured for use with the Sherpa 4x4 range of Lithium batteries, with charge voltages pre-set to optimum levels, making installation simple and error-free for users. Sherpa 4x4 chargers are also compatible with many other leading brands of batteries (refer to charge specifications below to confirm suitability for your application).
Multi-stage charging gives batteries longer life and improved performance compared to traditional battery chargers.
Bulk Charge Stage keeps the charger at a constant current until a set voltage is reached, typically achieving up to 80% of battery capacity in the shortest possible time.
Absorption Charge Stage adjusts the charge rate to bring the battery up to 100% capacity, ensuring maximum energy storage and battery performance.
Float and Maintenance Functions ensure the battery remains fully charged without risk of overcharging.
Sherpa 4x4 chargers include advanced smart charging technology that automatically manages charging from both DC and solar inputs, protecting your battery while delivering the fastest and most efficient charge possible.
Unlike basic solar regulators, the integrated MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) solar regulator continuously monitors solar panel output and automatically adjusts operating parameters to maximise solar energy harvest.
This allows the charger to extract significantly more usable power from solar panels, particularly during low-light conditions, cloudy weather and varying temperatures.
The charger automatically prioritises available charging sources and seamlessly manages charging from alternator, outboard charging systems and solar panels without user intervention.
